Charming small city with large parks and historic downtown
Eagle is a charming small city located ten miles northeast of Boise. Rising from the Boise River into the Boise foothills, Eagle offers beautiful Treasure Valley scenery and abundant outdoor recreation. The city features two of Idaho’s top golf courses and several large parks, including the 200-acre Eagle Sports Complex and Bike Park and the sprawling 525-acre Eagle State Park. Eagle’s historic downtown area is lined with eclectic restaurants and boutiques in buildings dating back to the early 1900s. Eagle’s housing options include upscale contemporary subdivisions and established tree-lined neighborhoods with large homes on spacious lots.
Eagle has experienced enormous growth since it was incorporated as a city in 1971. The population has grown from just 350 to more than 30,000. This increase in Eagle’s population has been accompanied by a similar growth in the amenities this attractive city offers. Careful city planning has preserved Eagle’s inviting small-town character while adding lots of stylish new shopping and dining options. Eagle’s proximity to Boise means you’re always within easy reach of many more places to enjoy great food, drinks, and retail.
Eagle’s pretty downtown area is located in the oldest part of the city. Recent years have brought many new businesses to Downtown Eagle, and this historic area now features a diverse array of international restaurants, artisanal coffee shops, and trendy boutiques. Bardenay Restaurant & Distillery pairs innovative Northwest cooking with craft cocktails prepared using house-distilled spirits. The Stuffed Olive is a laid-back local favorite for flavorful Italian entrees and pasta dishes. Bacquet’s Restaurant utilizes the finest local ingredients for a menu of elegant French cuisine served in a stylish upscale setting. There are also mouthwatering meals and a curated wine list at Oak Barrel of Eagle, tasty gyros and other Mediterranean dishes at Taziki’s Mediterranean Café, and delicious customizable stir-fry dishes at Mongolian of Eagle. Popular retailers in Downtown Eagle include TRR Outfitters for fly fishing equipment and outdoor wear, Second Avenue for antique home furnishings, and Again Consignment for steeply discounted high-end clothing. Close to Eagle Island State Park on the west side of the city, Roghani’s Restaurant pairs chef-driven Mediterranean dishes with wines from Roghani Vineyards.
Spanning 200 acres, Eagle Sports Complex and Bike Park is a world-class biking destination and one of the largest locations of its kind in the entire country. Facilities include a BMX track, mountain bike trails, basketball hoops, picnic areas, and a 12,500-square-foot skate park. Fifteen-acre Stephen Guerber Park on the Boise River features fields for baseball and softball and a playground with a giant splash pad. Local children can also join little league teams that use the park’s playing fields. Heritage Park is an attractive downtown greenspace with a gazebo and a water feature. Heritage Park hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including the Eagle Saturday Market. Taking place every week between May and October, Eagle Saturday Market offers lots of vendors selling fresh produce, specialty prepared foodstuffs, and handicrafts. The market also features live performances from talented local musicians. Amenities at Reid Merrill Park include basketball and volleyball courts, picnic shelters, and a children’s play area with a large splash pad. The scenic 25-mile Boise River Greenbelt follows the path of the river through Eagle. This pretty tree-lined riverside trail is popular for both walking and biking. Eagle is also home to two of Treasure Valley’s finest golf courses. BanBury Golf Course on the south channel of the Boise River regularly ranks among the top ten best courses in Idaho. A variety of junior and adult golf tournaments are held at BanBury throughout the year. The course’s 19th hole is a stylish restaurant featuring an outdoor patio with sweeping views over the course. Eagle Hills Golf Course opened in 1967 as the community’s first golf course. This 18-hole championship golf course offers an enchanting landscape and challenging play with mature trees, rolling fairways, and tricky water features framed by the majestic Boise foothills. Five hundred forty five-acre Eagle Island State Park stretches between the north and south channels of the Boise River within 2.5 miles of downtown Eagle. Attractions here include sandy beaches, paddleboard rentals, five miles of mixed-use trails, and the wintertime snow tubing runs of Gateway Snow Park. For adventurous visitors, Eagle Island State Park also features a zip line course and a 60-foot tower for simulated parachute jumps.
