STAR
Idyllic and affordable rural town with growing amenities
Star is a small town with an idyllic rural atmosphere nestled between the cities of Eagle and Middleton. For most of its history, Star was an isolated farming community with a population of just a few hundred people. This small town has experienced rapid growth in the 21st century thanks to developments such as the extension of Highway 16 in 2014. The new Star Middle School opened in 2018 and is now ranked among the top ten middle schools in Idaho. Other recent developments include new shops, restaurants, and subdivisions with attractive contemporary homes. Star’s real estate is very affordable compared to nearby Boise. Qualified applicants can also benefit from generous Rural Development Loans, which completely cover the cost of buying a home here.
Star has attracted both young families and retirees with its relaxed pace of life, beautiful mountain views, and growing amenities. New developments along the Boise River offer tennis courts and nature paths, while the small downtown area is continually adding new stores and restaurants.
State Street runs through the heart of Star with a good choice of locally run businesses. The Star Mercantile is a dependable grocery and hardware store that has been at the heart of the community since 1908. This well-stocked store sells everything from fresh produce and flowers to gifts and liquor. Sully’s Pub & Grill is a favorite neighborhood gathering place. This friendly Irish pub pairs beer and cocktails with a food menu featuring hand-carved steaks, beer-battered fish and chips, and fresh seafood delivered to the pub daily. The Bi-Mart membership discount store is stocked with a huge variety of goods. A lifetime family membership for this popular regional chain only costs $5! Homes in Star are also within 20 minutes’ drive of Costco in Nampa. Other businesses along State Street include the welcoming café Bobbie Jean’s Coffee and drive-thru Human Bean Coffee. Westside Pizza on Star Road is a family-friendly spot for creative pizzas with a wide variety of sauces and toppings. Homes in Star are within easy reach of many more shopping, dining, and entertainment options in other Treasure Valley communities. Downtown Boise is accessible in around 40 minutes.
The Star River Walk is a quiet tree-lined path running along the north bank of the Boise River. Shaded beneath a thick canopy of trees, this hidden path is a favorite place for residents to walk their dogs or take a relaxing stroll. Neighbors can get to know each other through a variety of community events throughout the year. One of the most popular annual events is Star’s traditional Fourth of July parade and fireworks show. The 545-acre Eagle Island State Park is located a short drive east of Star. This sprawling outdoor recreation area is nestled between the north and south channels of the Boise River. Amenities and attractions include a sandy swimming beach on the river, a 19-hole disc golf course, a playground with a kids’ climbing wall, a waterslide, and five miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, and dog walking.
Star is served by Joint School District No. 2.
